The packaging machinery industry marks a new historical milestone: in fact, in 2022, the sector recorded total sales of 8 billion 537 million euros, improving by 3.6 percent on the previous record of 2021. Looking at the period 2019-2022, the industry's turnover grew by about half a billion in just 4 years: a trend that matured despite the arrival of a pandemic, with its negative consequences on a global scale.
The distribution of turnover by sector sees 56.7 percent of the total achieved in the Food&Beverage sector and 43.3 percent in non-food.
Pharmaceutical and biomedical account for 16.7 percent of the total, reaching 1,089 million euros and an export propensity of 76.4 percent. While costemical and persoanal care reach 377 million euros in sales, 4.4 percent of total sales, with one of the lowest export propensities at 75.3 percent.
Thus, the production of packaging and packaging machinery in 2022 grows by +1.1% over 2021 for pharmaceutical and biomedical and by +10.7% for costemical and personal care.
This is what emerges from a recent national statistical survey produced by the MECS - UCIMA Study Centre, which describes the 2022 trend related to the performance of packaging and wrapping machines.
